 Kevin Wright Photography

Cristo's Running Fence, Marin County, CA

I have been involved with photography since 1972. It was then that I purchased my first camera at the Navel
commissary. I was taking photography classes in high school then. The camera I had to have was a 35mm Yashica.
Now most photographs are made with a Hasselblad medium format or a large format 4x5 Zone6 camera.
I have  done some traveling with my 4x5 camera but it has become a real chore because of the weight and the changing of film. Also this camera requires a tripod which adds to the scenario. Despite the challenges with this camera the finished product is unmatched.
I have also recently used a 35mm digital camera.
I sometimes watch a potential subject for a very long period of time. Until the light and conditions are just right.
I also collect prints and books of famous photographers that I like. I purchased my first photography book in 1980 after meeting Ansel Adams at a book signing in San Francisco.
I love the work of Morley Baer, Brett Weston, Edward Weston, Wright Morris, Paul Caponigro, Ruth Bernhard, Michael Kenna, Roman Loranc as well as other photographers.
Because of the rapid development in the Tri-Valley area,
I felt drawn to photograph the natural landscape. My desire to photograph remnants of California history as well as preserve this area on film is a continual study that I find very intriguing and inspiring.
I find it exciting to photograph in foreign countries. I have photographed in Russia, England, Holland, Greece and Canada. Also areas closer to home such as Alaska, South Dakota, New Mexico, Hawaii, and other states.
I have trained and been on workshops with masters in the field such as Morley Baer, Kim Weston, Henry Gilpin, and Dana Morganson. I have attended Chabot and Las Positas Colleges for photography.
All prints are either Sepia, Selenium, Hand colored, or toned to some degree.
